Meet Dr. Alex Afshar

Alex Afshar MD, is the Medical Director & President of The Vein Institute of Connecticut. Dr. Afshar is a board certified family practice physician. He is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of venous disease, which is performed in-office and involves minimal down time and pain and covered by insurance if symptomatic. Dr. Afshar has trained extensively in the field of Phlebology (specialty in vein medicine).

Dr. Afshar's education has involved residency training at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons -- The Stamford Hospital, Stamford CT, Medical research at the National Institute of Health, National Cancer Institute with a number of publications and acknowledgments, Medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine, BS degrees and BS course work from George Washington University, Washington D.C. and Sheffield University, United Kingdom.

Dr. Afshar is fluent in English with a good working knowledge of Spanish and Latin and enjoys reading, motocross, wakeboarding and gardening.


Valerie Trotti, RVT

Valerie is the Technical Director and Surgical Coordinator of Vein Institute of Connecticut, as well as our in-house ultrasound technologist. Valerie is a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) through Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). She is an expert is vascular ultrasound and the diagnosis and treatment of vascular disease. In addition, Valerie has trained extensively in the field of Phlebology (specialty in vein medicine).


Valerie's education has involved undergraduate studies at St. John's University in Queens, NY where she majored in Biology, as well as Long Island University in Brooklyn, NY where she obtained her credentials in Vascular Technology. In 2010, Valerie became an adjunct faculty member at Long Island University where she taught Phlebology and general principles of ultrasound.

Valerie is fluent in English with a good working knowledge of Spanish. In her free time, Valerie enjoys traveling, photography and spending time with her husband and children.
