Samantha Dempsey, MBA, Practice Manager
Samantha is a graduate of Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut where she majored in Biology, as well as Western Governor’s University, in Salt Lake City, Utah where she received her MBA with a concentration in Healthcare Management.
Samantha is a member of the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA), the American College of Medical Practice Executives (ACMPE), and the Connecticut Medical Group Management Association (CMGMA) and the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).
In her free time, Samantha enjoys traveling and spending time with her husband and daughter.
Asime Zhaku, Office Coordinator
Asime, a Magna Cum Laude graduate with a Bachelor’s in Education from local WCSU, joins the Vein Institute with over ten years of beauty and medical management expertise. Licensed and certified in skin care and make-up artistry and owner/entrepreneur of a successful hair & make-up freelance business, Asime comes credited with a vast array of knowledge in her field of work. Asime is highly qualified to answer any and all of your questions. As the Office Coordinator she meticulously verifies patient insurance coverage and communicates this information to the patients to ensure their full understanding of their benefits.
She loves working with the talented Dr. Afshar to ensure that the best of you shines and your inner confidence prevails throughout your beautiful journey with us at the Vein Institute.
Asime loves to spend her free time with her family exploring new adventures and cherishing all the small moments of life, Asime also adores history and can be found exploring museums of all types.
Renee Laboy, RN
Renee attended Southern Connecticut State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.
In 2010, Renee joined Vein Institute of Connecticut as a Registered Nurse, specializing in sclerotherapy and aesthetics.
Renee enjoys traveling, working out and spending time with friends and family.
Gary DeBrito, CMA, RMA, Medical Assistant
Gary is a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) and Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), who joined the VICT team in 2014 after completing his clinical rotation with the practice.
Gary enjoys hiking, Origami, and is very dedicated to living a healthy and active lifestyle.
Ashley Shorrock, Patient Billing Associate
Ashley has been with Vein Institute since 2013. She is actively pursuing her Associates Degree. She is focusing her studies on Dental Hygiene.
In her free time, Ashley enjoys traveling and spending time with family and friends.
Daniela Nunez, Patient Services Associate
Daniela is actively pursuing her Associates Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics at Gateway Community College. She is a student member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
In her free time, Daniela enjoys Frisbee, paddle-boarding and music.
Jetlira Alimi, Patient Billing Associate
Jetlira has been with VICT since 2012. She is fluent in Albanian and in her free time she enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter, reading, and traveling.
Shawn McGirl, Physician Liaison
Shawn began his passion for the Medical field in 2009 when he became a special needs teacher in Newington High School. He has worked in specialties including: Orthopedic Surgeons, Cardiology, Vascular, and Medicare Billing.
Shawn is very passionate about his family, and has a great love for sports.
Jean Gutierrez, RDMS, RVT
Jean obtained her bachelor degree from Sacred Heart University. She continued her ultrasound studies at St. Vincent’s College.
She is accredited by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography as a Registered Vascular Technologist.
In her free time, Jean enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.
Julie Dinh, RVT, RVS
Julie attended the University of Connecticut where she majored in biological science and the American Institute of Healthcare and Technology where she pursued her ultrasound studies.
Julie became interested in vein disease while working at her externship and had a year of experience before joining Vein Institute to specialize in this field.
She is accredited by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography as a Registered Vascular Technologist and also accredited by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International as a Registered Vascular Specialist. She is currently working on obtaining her RDMS and RPhs credential.
In her free time, Julie enjoys reading, attending comic conventions, spending time with her friends, fiancé and dog, Jubilee.
