Treatment Options for Your Varicose Veins

Are you bothered by the unsightly appearance of varicose veins but reluctant to undergo surgery? Surgery is a solution for varicose veins, but it’s not the only one, and it’s certainly not the first option. Our team of providers at Vein Institute offers a variety of treatment options for varicose veins, including both surgical and nonsurgical options.

If you’re ready to say goodbye to the bulging veins and achiness associated with them, continue reading to learn more about what’s available.

Radiofrequency ablation

Radiofrequency ablation is a minimally invasive treatment designed to treat the diseased vein with heat. Radiofrequency energy heats up the problematic vein, sealing it and causing your blood to reroute through healthier veins. There’s no need for stitches, incisions, or overnight hospital stays.

Venaseal™

Venaseal™ is a medical super glue, which then closes down the diseased vein. When diseased veins are closed down either from Venaseal™ or any other different modalities that we have available at Vein Institute, the blood is then rerouted to the normal functioning veins nearby.

Sclerotherapy

If your varicose veins are on the smaller side, you might be a candidate for sclerotherapy. During this procedure, a special solution (called a sclerosant) is injected into your veins. The sclerosant irritates your vein and causes it to swell and scar, blocking the flow of blood through it. As a result, blood travels through other, healthier veins.

Ambulatory phlebectomy

Although many people opt for noninvasive options (such as wearing compression stockings) or options such as the three listed above to eliminate varicose veins, sometimes surgery can be the right solution for you. Here at Vein Institute, we perform ambulatory phlebectomy as an outpatient procedure. During this procedure, we don’t just treat varicose veins, we remove them completely. You might consider the surgical route if your veins are very large, bulging, and are located very close to the surface of your skin. With years of experience performing this procedure, we can address all your concerns and answer any questions you might have during your consultation.

Healing from varicose vein treatment

Treating varicose veins does more than just improve the look of your legs. Treatments also address the physical symptoms — achiness, pain, or heaviness — of varicose veins.

After your procedure, you’ll need to support your veins as they recover. You may be asked to wear compression stockings for a specific length of time to maintain pressure on your treated veins. Depending on which treatment you opt for, you may need to refrain from strenuous activities for a few days, wear bandages, and avoid hot baths. Rest assured that, no matter which treatment you choose, we’ll provide you with specific post-treatment instructions so you can feel confident in your ability to recover safely and quickly.

We treat varicose veins at all of our three convenient locations in Fairfield, Newtown and Shelton Connecticut. To request an appointment, simply call your location of choice, or request your appointment online
